Division 1: Rathkeale B 2-3 Breska Rovers A
It is now 10 league games without defeat (W9, D1) for our A team. This was a hard fought victory over an experienced Rathkeale B team. The home side took the lead with a wonderful right-wing cross was volleyed into the top corner after 15 minutes.
Breska battled gamely and Josh Adams eqaulised with a header from an Ethan Keyes corner from the right. His header had too much power and accuracy for the defender on the line.He doubled his account and made it three goals in two appearances for the A team shortly before the break. Tom Clancy won the ball back, released Ethan Keyes, who linked with Niall Quane and it was Keyes who centered for Adams to find the net. It was a powerful counter attack which gave us the half-time advantage.
Adams turned provider for the third and the insurance goal. James Purcell’s long goal-kick was flicked on by Adams and Ethan Keyes raced onto the ball to find the bottom right -hand corner for a 3-1 lead.
Rathkeale reduced the deficit in stoppage time but not before some excellent defensive work from Conor McCarthy, Declan Normoyle and the relentless TJ O’Connor. Victory for St. Ita’s over Newcastle West Town Reserves means that our advantage at the summit of Division One remains just six points.
