Weekly Notes 14th October
Junior:

Division One
Kildimo United 0-1 Breska Rovers

Our junior ‘A’ team made it three from three in league action and go joint top, following a deserved 1-0 victory over neighbours Kildimo United. A bright start saw Breska on top in the opening quarter and efforts from David Lowe, Ethan Keyes and Josh Fitzgerald signaled intent for the game. Lowe pounced to open the scoring on the quarter hour, prodding past the impressive Kildimo keeper for his third goal in two outings.

Kildimo enjoyed their own spell of dominance prior to the break, and won a penalty after a handball on the edge of the area. James Purcell, who has saved so many spot kicks down the years, did so again, denying the Kildimo midfielder an equaliser.

The second half was more even, however, strong defensive work from Sean Healy, Conor McCarthy, Diarmuid O’Connor and Ross Griffin meant that Purcell wasn’t overly busy.

At the other end, Keyes, Fitzgerald and Foster all went close while the bottom of the post was also hit by Lowe.

We held on for another win, to join St Ita’s top of the division, though it is only after three hard fought games.

Team: James Purcell (capt); Diarmuid O’Connor, Conor McCarthy, Sean Healy, Ross Griffin; Josh Fitzgerald, Ger Mullins, TJ O’Connor, Ethan Keyes; Kevin Foster, David Lowe

Subs used: Rob O’Grady, Nathan Sheehan

Division Two:

Breska Rovers B 2-4 Askeaton A

Askeaton, who have an unprecedented two teams in the third tier, were the visitors to Clarina on Sunday and came away 4-2 winners. One could argue that Breska dererved something more from the game, but errors at the back were punished, while Askeaton survived a few near misses in their own defence.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, a Leonard Coughlan missed a pair of chances following good play from Keith Punch on one wing, and Ethan Keyes on the other.

The visitors extended their lead with 20 minutes to go. Josh Adams pulled a goal back before it was 4-1 following a swift counter attack. Tommy Collery buried a penalty with the last action, after Michael Keating was fouled following good work inside the box.

The game proved another lesson for our young side, with just three of the starting XI over 21 years old.

Team: Ben Adams; Tom Clancy, Tommy Collery, Josh Adams, Sean Gormley; Keith Punch, Jack Moroney, Ross Kenny, Ethan Keyes; Dylan Kelly, Leonard Coughlan

Subs used: Dean Garvey, Josh Moloney, Michael Keating

Ladies:
Our Ladies were defeated 3-0 at home to a strong Abbeyfeale United side.

THE WEEK AHEAD.

u12 Division 4 Shield Final Preview:

Our u12b team have reached the Division 4 shield final and will play Abbeyfeale utd B this Sunday in Feenagh. The head to head between the two teams has resulted in victory for each side away from home, Abbeyfeale utd beat Breska 2-0 in Clarina and Breska beat Abbeyfeale 6-0 in Riverside park. The tie has all the makings of being yet another fiercely contested game. Both teams have finished 2nd & 3rd respectively after fine league campaigns. Breska have scored a total of 34 league goals this campaign winning 9 matches and will look to add to that tally on Sunday, however Abbeyfeale will certainly pose a threat going forward. Best of luck to our young team who have a chance of claiming their first piece of silverware in their first competitive season of Desmond League football.
